When schools closed this spring, we jumped into action to ensure all students had meals, and we saw an incredible response with over 2,200 individuals and businesses contributing. Now, we’re calling on the community to rally again so that every student has access to digital instruction.

The Durham Public Schools Foundation (DPS Foundation) is announcing an initiative to deliver prepared meals, produce, canned goods, books, and other supplies to 1,500 DPS families on a weekly basis for at least the next two months. This effort is made possible by support from Biogen Foundation, Pacific Western Bank, MC Taylor and Hiss Golden Messenger, Merge Records, Mayor Steve Schewel and his wife Lao Rubert, and 1,085 community members who have made donations over the past

A week and a half ago DPS announced that schools would be closing. Since that moment, our community has come together in an incredible demonstration of support and caring for each other. Since we emailed about urgently needed funds for students impacted by school closures, <strong>841 people have given $112,412! </strong>We are amazed by this outpouring of care for and from our community. There are two priorities for these funds.</p>

We are proud to announce launch of the DPSF Teacher Leadership Academy, developed specifically for Durham Public School classroom teachers. </p><p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">The inaugural cohort of twenty teachers will meet one school day per month beginning September, 2019 and ending May, 2020. Our goal is to strengthen the role of the teacher and empower teachers to become decision-makers and change agents beyond their classroom walls. ...
