The 2025 Sole Purpose Sneaker Ball is the inaugural annual fundraising event organized by the DPS Foundation in honor of DPS alumnus, Zachari Hawkins. Event proceeds will fund the Zachari Hawkins Memorial Fund at DPS Foundation, supporting school-based wellness programs and resources that help students thrive — in school and in life.

The inspiration of Sole Purpose
From DPSF board member, Rep. Zack Hawkins: “Our family experienced an unimaginable loss when we lost our son, Zachari, in June of 2022. In the time since, we’ve worked to turn our pain into purpose—fueled by the incredible generosity and compassion shown by our friends, colleagues, and community. Your kindness gave us the strength to create something lasting—an annual event that both honors his life and helps others in need.
That’s why Tracey and I, as volunteers, are proud to partner with Duke University President Dr. Vincent Price, Duke Health, and the DPS Foundation to launch the inaugural Sole Purpose Sneaker Ball—an event dedicated to addressing the growing mental health crisis that continues to impact young people across America since the pandemic.
For us, this mission is deeply personal. Zachari was our sole purpose—the spark behind so much of the good we’ve tried to do in this world. In his honor, we’re committed to supporting students—today and for generations to come—who need encouragement, understanding, and help.
