Summer Joy Fund
Introducing the "Summer Joy Fund" – an initiative dedicated to providing students with joyful, creative, and educational summer camp experiences at absolutely no cost to them.
We believe that every child deserves a chance to embrace the magic of summer, foster their creativity, and expand their knowledge in a fun and engaging environment regardless of financial constraints. With this fund, DPS students from diverse backgrounds will have access to a wide array of summer camp programs, carefully curated to cater to their unique interests and talents. From nature excursions and STEM workshops to arts and crafts, sports, and cultural immersions, we have partnered with a variety of reputable summer camp organizers to offer an extensive range of experiences. We collaborate with different organization to hold spots for Durham students, we aim to support local and minority led organizations.
Summer of 2024 we were able to support 5 different summer camps to create spaces for Durham students to thrive!
We awarded out a total of $13,000 to support summer camps in DPS! This included the following camps:
Calvary Summer Camp $1,500 - West End Community Foundation, Inc.
Freedom Schools Program Summer 2024 $2,000 - Children's Defense Fund
LEAP Summer Camp $1,500 - Durham LEAP
Wytha Balance Yoga Summer Camp $1,000 - Bull City Yoga Collective
Hub Farm Summer Camp $7,000 - DPS Hub Farm
